Should College Basketball Players be Paid?

The biggest question of the NCAA basketball season in 2017-2018 season is should college basketball players be paid? I mean most 5 star recruits are already being payed in by head coaches as a recruiting chip to come and get theme to play at whatever college. We should just get rid of the scandals that happen like at Arizona and Louisville and just pay the players already.

I don’t know why it is such a big deal to some fans most player are getting played anyways, but this way coaches don’t have to be fired and punished for when they get caught for doing something every other coach is doing. Paying the players is the only way for smaller colleges to have a shot at getting a recruit, since the big colleges are paying too. Almost all colleges are paying their players in some way and everyone knows about it so it should not be a problem to make it official.

It would also be beneficial to college basketball to pay players because it would give them a shot to keep their best players from going to the NBA draft. Most college basketball players fly to the NBA even if they have a small chance to get drafted because they want money and they want it now. If college starts paying their players they won’t lose as many players as they do every year to the NBA cause players will stay for their guaranteed money rather than take a chance with the NBA.

The only argument against paying basketball players is that it would be unfair to all the other college sports. Well all the other college sports have some kind of pay too. It wouldn’t take long for them to get official pay in college after basketball breaks the boundary all the other sport will shortly follow.

College players deserve to be payed because it is already going on and we mind as well acknowledge it and accept it. If we except it we can move forward and advance it in all sports this will lead to all schools having a chance at a big recruit and will end up balancing all of college sports.

Lebron vs. MJ Who is the G.O.A.T.?

Lebron vs Michael Jordan has been the biggest basketball argument for any NBA fan for the past decade. Both sides have a very compelling argument for who is better based on one stat or the other, but I have the true answer… The only answer. I believe Michael Jordan by far is the better player compared to Lebron “baby” James.

First of all Michael Jordan has won 6 NBA titles, while Lebron has won 3. Michael Jordan by the way has never ever lost a NBA Finals series while Lebron has lost 6!!! 6 finals losses! That’s way too many for him to be the best and better than undefeated finals champion Michael Jordan. Lebron cannot be compared to Michael when he can’t even win half of the finals he plays in.

Secondly Michael Jordan had half the help that Lebron did in his few finals wins. Michael Jordan did have the help of All-Star Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, which was a very good team, but that is nothing compared to Lebron’s help in Miami the years they won with All-Stars Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Ray Allen, and sixth man of the year Mario Chalmers. Even with that lineup Miami lost its first finals appearance to the Dallas Mavericks.

The main argument that supports Lebron is that he plays in a more competitive league today than Michael did back in the 80’s and 90’s. Well I am here to tell you that Michael Jordan played in a ruthless league with the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons and with less protection of players by foul calls like today’s league. A reach in today’s league would be considered a clean steal, the game has evolved to have less contact today, but back then it was a different story.

I can’t argue that Lebron is a great player, I just don’t think he compares to his heiress Michael Jordan. I believe Lebron isn’t as great as Jordan because he isn’t clutch in the finals, he had way better teams and still failed to succeed, and he plays in a softer league today. You can argue all you want Lebron will never size up to Jordan.

Is Alabama Football the Best College Football Dynasty Ever?

In 2017 Alabama Football won its 3rd National Championship in 5 years and its 5th in 9 years. Alabama has participated in every College Football Playoff since it started in 2015. If that is not a sports dynasty then I have no idea what is. Now the question is does the Crimson Tide have the best College Football dynasty of all time? Do they rival the dynasties of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami, and Nebraska?

I believe that Alabama does indeed hold the best College Football dynasty of all time. It all starts with there God of a coach Nick Saban. Nick Saban is without a doubt the best coach in College football history, without him Alabama wouldn’t have half the legacy they do now. He is an outstanding recruiter holding the number one recruiting class in most years during the current Alabama dynasty, he has also won most of his championships without a outstanding quarterback. There are currently 0 former Alabama quarterbacks starting in the NFL. How did he do it without a quarterback? He did it with defense.

Defense is another crucial reason Alabama has the dynasty they do today. Alabama has not been outside the College Football’s top 5 ranked defenses at any point since the start of their dynasty in 2008. Alabama has produced ton of defensive studs in the NFL, like Johnathan Allen, Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, and Donta Hightower defnesive captain of the famous New England Patriots. Without Alabama’s superb defense I highly doubt they would be in the position they’re in today.

I know you all are asking “what makes Alabama the best”? I believe Alabama’s dynasty should be held above past College Football dynasties because of the level of competition there is in College Football today. In the past college football was very one sided, usually one team got all the best recruits and had no competition. While in today’s game there is not much of a difference between a 4 star recruit and a 5 star recruit and there is a ton of both. There is a lot more competition in college football today rather than in the 1960’s where Notre Dame had no competition at all.

These are all the reasons why Alabama is undeniably the best college football dynasty of all time. They have the best coach, best defense, and they compete against higher competition. There is no doubt in my mind that Alabama is the best and they will stay the best for awhile, until then we will just have to sit and watch Alabama reign.

Should College Football Playoff be Promoted to 8 Teams?

The College Football Playoff (CFP) consist of the four top ranked teams in college football. These teams usually consist of the conference champions of the 4 power four conferences, The Big 12, South Eastern Conference (SEC), Big 10, and American Coastal Conference (ACC). These conferences usually have one representative, but last year’s CFP contained Oklahoma (Big 12), Clemson (ACC), Alabama (SEC), Georgia (SEC). I know what you’re saying how can there be two SEC teams!

Well based on how all the conference championships played out the CFP committee decided that Alabama was better than Big 10 conference champion Ohio State and Big 10 runner up Wisconsin with a (12-1) record compared to Alabama’s (12-1). Alabama ended up defeating Georgia in the 2018 championship game to take the crown. It was an exciting game, but in the end you just ended up wanting more… more football… more games. This is why we need an 8 team playoff! We need it to create diversity in conference teams in the playoff and to give us fans more football.

The expansion of the CFP won’t just be great for the fans, but great for all the people who make money off the sport like the committee and TV stations. CFP games are viewed more than regular bowl games, this will bring revenue to the TV stations hosting the games and a increase in sold out games will provide money for the Stadium hosts. More playoff games will likely result in a huge gain in profits all across the board.

Now some people believe if we increase the number of teams that make it in the CFP it won’t be as “special” when a team makes it. I believe it doesn’t matter how special it should feel, many outstanding teams miss out on the playoff every year cause they had one bad game or they played a top 4 team and lost a close game. Powerhouse teams like Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin have been left out of the CFP for several years it would be great to see teams like these compete and not be left out year after year.

I believe the CFP should be expanded there should be no debate about it. It will provide more money for all organizations sponsoring it and the organization itself. There will also be a greater fan-base for the sport which translates to money. It should be a no brainier for the CFP to expand. I’ve stated my case the ball is in your court now college football… to expand or to not expand?

Is Gambling Good for Sports?

Supreme Court recently got rid of a 1992 federal law that banned most states from gambling in athletic events. Many people are stoked for this ruling, but me personally am not. I believe gambling will cause no good for the professional sports industry and its competitive nature.

I believe gambling will ruin sports entirely for all legitimate sports fans. One issue gambling will cause is the increase of money in all leagues sports therefore leading to an increase in pay for major league players. I know you are wondering why is more money for the players bad? Well players should be more focused on winning than getting payed the big bucks. If all players are payed an enormous amount then why should they even try and compete when they all get payed the same amount win or lose? This will transform the competitive game we watch today into blow out losses or games where players show no determination.

Another reason gambling will suck all the enjoyment out of watching sports is flopping. Not the flopping that happens when a player exaggerates contact and draws a foul. I’m talking about the flopping in which a players/coaches throw the game for extra money produced by sports gamblers. You can see this mostly in regular season games where the games aren’t too important. For example lets say the back-to-back champion Golden State Warriors play the Charlotte Hornets (one of the leagues worst teams).  The Warriors are expected to win by 12 points, but they only end up winning by 11 because 98% free throw shooter Steph Curry misses both of his free throws that would put them up by 13. I know you are wondering well they still won why does it matter? Well in the gambling world the Warriors actually lost cause they were supposed to win by 12 therefore everyone who bet on the warriors lost money because Steph Curry missed free throws, which could’ve been a coincidence, but I highly doubt it. If we make gambling legal we will see more of these point shedding and rigged games, which ruins the excitement of watching games.

Gambling will likely be the downfall of our beloved competitive sport age with the raise of player pay, point shedding, and the rigging of games. Without competitiveness sports views will see a decline and with that decline we will see the end of sports. I believe gambling will ruin all sports you can believe what you want, but I’m certain.
